Meter readings are recorded manually in FacilityLane, on the web app or the mobile app. Each reading updates the meter’s current value and last reading date and adds a point to its history. See the Meters Overview for how meters are set up.

Record a reading on the web

Open the meter

Go to Meters and open the meter, or open the linked asset and select the meter from its detail page.

Add the reading

Click Add Reading and enter the value in the meter’s unit. Double-check you are reading in the same unit the meter is configured for.

Save

Save the reading. The meter’s current value and last reading date update immediately, and the reading appears in the history.

Record a reading on mobile

Field technicians usually record readings while standing at the equipment:

Open the asset

In the mobile app, find the asset — the fastest way is scanning its code with the QR Scanner.

Select the meter

Open the asset’s meters and tap the one you are reading.

Enter and save the value

Enter the value from the gauge or display and save.

Recording a meter reading in the mobile app

Build reading capture into your routine: add a value step for each meter to the inspection procedure attached to the asset’s PM schedule. Readings then get recorded on every scheduled visit without a separate reminder.
Watch for unit and rollover mistakes: entering PSI into a bar meter, or a fresh value after an hour-meter resets, produces a spike or drop that corrupts the trend. If a new reading looks wildly different from the last one, re-check the gauge before saving.
Open a meter to see its full reading history:
  • History list — every reading with its value and date, most recent first.
  • Trend chart — readings plotted over time, making gradual drift and sudden changes easy to spot.

Use trends to act early: a climbing differential pressure means filters are loading; runtime accumulating faster than planned means service intervals may need tightening — see Frequencies. When a trend shows a problem developing, raise a work order before the failure happens.
The last reading date tells you how fresh a meter’s data is. If critical meters have not been read in weeks, add reading steps to the relevant procedures or assign a recurring reading route.
